A follow-up to groundbreaking conferences held in the Netherlands and the United States, the Third International Nitrogen Conference brought experts together to explore ways for countries to create a balanced and flexible strategy to increase food and energy production while decreasing the detrimental effects on the environment.
Held in Nanjing, China, October 12-16, 2004, under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the conference brought together researchers from such diverse disciplines as agronomy, ecology, biogeochemistry, oceanography, and atmospheric science as well as other sciences dealing with agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fishery, and energy production.
